BUSINESS/COMPUTER APPS


Title:  CODING/PROGRAMMING

PREREQUISITE: Students in grades 9-12

DESCRIPTION: Program a “DRONE”, yes a drone.  This course is designed to introduce students to the world of coding and programming using a variety or resources both web based and hands on.  Students will create various programs in order to get their “DRONE”  to perform a variety of tasks.

Title: WEB PAGE DESIGN

PREREQUISITE: Students in grades 9-12.

DESCRIPTION: This course is an introduction to the design, creation and maintenance of web pages and websites. Students will learn about web design standards and how to create web pages using HTML, Macromedia Dreamweaver & Google Apps Sites. Students will be creating an entire website for a “Fitness Center” as a final project.

Title:  PERSONAL FINANCE

PREREQUISITE: Students in grades 9-12

DESCRIPTION: This course is designed to introduce students to a variety of topics that will help them successfully manage their personal finances beyond High School.  Managing Careers & Money - gross pay, net pay, benefits, income tax, filing taxes, budgets, checking & banking, saving; Managing Credit - credit laws, costs of credit, problems with credit; Managing Resources - spending habits, spending choices, renting, buying a home, buying a vehicle; Providing Financial Security - investing & the different choices available; Risk Management - property insurance, auto insurance, health insurance.

Title: ADVANCED GOOGLE APPS

PREREQUISITE: Students in grades 10-12

DESCRIPTION: This course is designed to dig deeper into more advanced features of Google Apps; Docs, Sheets, Slides, Forms, Drawings, and Sites. Students will be using Google Apps to further their understanding of the following topics:  Tech Readiness - learn to choose the appropriate tools to communicate, problem-solve, effectively research & retrieve information, and develop skills necessary to be productive in the 21st century;  Financial Literacy - learn how to develop valuable lifelong skills for making career decisions, managing money, and creating a secure financial future; Career Readiness - learn how to develop lifelong skills for conducting yourself professionally, finding the right career, researching job opportunities, communicating in the workplace, and financial planning; Digital Citizenship - learn how to become a digital citizen by taking responsibility as a member of the global online community.

Title: ACCOUNTING 1

PREREQUISITE: Students in grades 9-12.

DESCRIPTION: This course is the study of planning, analyzing, classifying and recording business transactions for a service focused business formed as a proprietorship (one owner). Emphasis is on the complete accounting cycle and preparing financial statements, bank reconciliations, and payroll.

Title: ACCOUNTING 2

PREREQUISITE: Students in grades 9-12 & Accounting 1

DESCRIPTION: This course is the study of planning, analyzing, classifying and recording business transactions for a merchandising business formed as a partnership. Emphasis is on the complete accounting cycle, preparing financial statements, bank reconciliations, preparing payroll as well as business taxes.  Accounting 2 will have a computerized simulation in order to reinforce the aforementioned concepts in a real world situation.

Title: DESKTOP PUBLISHING

PREREQUISITE: Students in grades 9-12.

DESCRIPTION: This course is designed to offer students the opportunity to use desktop publishing skills in the production of various projects.  Students will learn Microsoft Publisher to produce attractive documents that effectively use and display proper desktop publishing strategies. Graphic design and page layout techniques are emphasized.  Students will be creating flyers, letterheads, business cards, bumper stickers, gift certificates, t-shirt designs, newsletters, brochures, etc. for a brand new “Pizza” business.

Title: INTRO TO GOOGLE APPS

PREREQUISITE: Required for all 9th grade students

DESCRIPTION: This course is designed to introduce students to the basics of Google’s productivity apps: Gmail, Docs, Sheets, Slides, Forms, Drawings, and Sites.  The learn-by-doing approach will be implemented in this class in order to get students applying skills and tools immediately.

Title: ECONOMICS

PREREQUISITES: Required for all 12th grade students

DESCRIPTION:  The goal of this course is to broaden student understanding of economics as it impacts the individual, community, state, nation, and world.  Microeconomic and macroeconomic principles will both be covered in this course.   As the students learn more about the functions of business, society, and government; supply and demand; markets and prices; and international economic policy, they will become better informed about economic growth in the United States and the world.  Economics is designed to provide students with the knowledge to effectively manage their resources and make informed decisions relating to their personal lives and as citizens in a democratic society.
