PHYSICAL EDUCATION

Title: PHYSICAL EDUCATION 7

PREREQUISITES:  Required for Students in Grade 7

DESCRIPTION:       An introduction to fitness activities: Team sports, strength training, and individual cardiovascular training.  Skill development is a strong focus.

ORGANIZATION:   Semester

Title: HEALTH 8

PREREQUISITES:  Required for Students in Grade 8

DESCRIPTION:  This course is an introduction to the six priority areas of the CDC.  Students will practice learning skills individually, in partners, in small group and large group activities.  Students will also develop skills in first aid, CPR, decision-making and role-playing a variety of situations.  This course is a one-quarter course alternating with Physical Ed 8. Topics will also include environmental health issues and preventing substance abuse.  Students will take part in an extensive health project and create an individual portfolio.

ORGANIZATION:   Quarter (alternates with 1-quarter physical education)





Title: PHYSICAL EDUCATION 8

PREREQUISITES:   Required for Students in Grade 8

DESCRIPTION: Fitness activities: Team sports, strength training, and individual cardiovascular training.  Emphasis is focused on lifetime sports, skill development, wellness and cardiovascular activities, social skills, fitness and weight training.

ORGANIZATION:   1 semester plus 1 quarter

Title: PHYSICAL EDUCATION 9

PREREQUISITES:  Required for Students in Grade 9

DESCRIPTION:       Physical education course will cover a variety of activities such as strength training, cardiovascular activities, team sports, individual sports and lifetime activities.

ORGANIZATION:   Semester

Title: HEALTH 10

PREREQUISITES:  Required for Students in Grade 10

DESCRIPTION:  This class alternates with Physical Education 10.  Classroom topics include mental health and wellness, stress reduction, violence, anger management, CPR, diseases/disorders and preventing substance abuse.  Students will develop decision-making and goal setting skills through individual, partner, small group and large group practices.  Students will establish an understanding of the six priority areas: Prevent and Reduce drugs, alcohol, tobacco, intentional and unintentional injuries, STI/HIV and unintentional pregnancies, physical fitness, nutrition and dietary practice. Students will create an in-depth study project and an individual portfolio.

           

ORGANIZATION:   Quarter (alternates with 1-quarter physical education)

Title: LIFETIME FITNESS 10

PREREQUISITES:  Required for Students in Grade 10

DESCRIPTION:  This class is yearlong alternating with Health (required of grade 10).  Activities for this course are in accordance with the activities recommended by the State Department of Education.  Emphasis is focused on lifetime activities, skill development, wellness and cardiovascular activities. Social skills, physical fitness and strength training are key components to this class.

ORGANIZATION:   Quarter (alternates with 1-quarter physical education)

Title: STRENGTH TRAINING

PREREQUISITES: Students in grades 11 and 12.

DESCRIPTION:  This elective course is designed for the student who is dedicated and determined to develop muscular strength, flexibility, speed, and cardiovascular conditioning through strength training, plyometrics and cardiovascular training.  Students will keep daily journals, make self-assessments and set personal goals to track individual progress.
