Four Battle Lake 6th grade students had the opportunity to participate in the Regional MN History Day competition at St. Cloud State University on Saturday, March 29.
During this project, students create an interdisciplinary research project. The students took a deep dive into the research and the presentation of a historical topic using the given theme. This year the theme was Rights and Responsibilities. There are five competition categories that the students can choose from as either an individual or a group: exhibit, performance, website, documentary, or historical paper.
Kaylee Kerzman and Emma Kraemer did a group exhibition focusing on Title IX and what it did for women’s sports; they brought personal experience into the topic as well.
Sam Nelson created an exhibit about D-Day and the planning general’s need to balance rights and responsibilities.
Eli Wedeking created an individual performance focusing on the Voting Rights Act of 1965.
Aside from creating their projects, they were all interviewed by historians regarding their projects and research.
Battle Lake students learned a lot, worked hard, and were excellent representatives of Battle Lake. Click here to view an image of the fun that was had by these dedicated students on competition day!
There are 12 regional National History Day competitions in MN with the MN state competition taking place April 27th; that competition is for 6-12 grade students. Eli Wedeking qualified for the State Competition with his Performance!
Congratulations to all participants for a job well done!
