The 11th grade students recently received a lesson on the CNC program and operation. They learned the computer program, tools needed, how to find pictures, and how the machines carved out their project. They then turned it into a Thanksgiving project with the 2nd grade. Together they painted the projects and the 2nd graders got to bring them home!
On November 20, the Battle Lake School first and fourth graders attended the DOT DOT DOT Musical Performance at the Detroit Lakes Cultural Center. This Musical is based off the Creatrilogy Series written by Peter H. Reynolds. Take a look at some of the fun they had!
7th graders put their creativity and wood working skills to the test while making C02 cars in EdTech. Students had to design a car they thought would be fast or appealing to the eye. They learned how to use the bandsaw, drill press, and power sanders to complete this project. To top it off, the students raced their cars and saw how their design matched up with their classmates!
The kindergarten students celebrated the milestone of 50 days in school with a Sock Hop during PE class. Everyone had a chance to hula hoop, jump rope and limbo. And, of course, we danced our socks off!

On November 11th, the Battle Lake School held their annual Veterans Day Program. This year the special guest speakers were Retired United States Army Reserve Colonel Stan Carrigan, and the Voice of Democracy and Patriot's Pen Contest award presenter was Desiree Clark. The Battle Lake High School band and choir performed many amazing pieces throughout the program. Today and every day we thank Veterans everywhere for their service to our country and fighting for our freedom!

This event provided a unique and impactful learning experience for our students. As a widely known clinical psychologist, mentor, and motivational speaker, Doc Brown brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise in addressing critical issues related to youth empowerment, mental health, and academic success. Through his engaging presentations, Doc Brown aims to inspire our students by addressing various challenges and crises they may encounter in their lives.
The event was designed to encourage a growth mindset and empower our students to make positive choices, enhance their resilience, and develop crucial life skills that will contribute to their personal and academic growth.
Battle Lake School is embarking on a three-year implementation journey with the BARR (Building Assets, Reducing Risks) program. Funded by the Otter Tail Family Services Collaborative and a grant from the Minnesota Department of Education (MDE), BARR promises a holistic approach to education, nurturing students' academic, social, and emotional well-being.
