On November 11th, the Battle Lake School held their annual Veterans Day Program. This year the special guest speakers were Retired United States Army Reserve Colonel Stan Carrigan, and the Voice of Democracy and Patriot's Pen Contest award presenter was Desiree Clark. The Battle Lake High School band and choir performed many amazing pieces throughout the program. Today and every day we thank Veterans everywhere for their service to our country and fighting for our freedom!

This event provided a unique and impactful learning experience for our students. As a widely known clinical psychologist, mentor, and motivational speaker, Doc Brown brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise in addressing critical issues related to youth empowerment, mental health, and academic success. Through his engaging presentations, Doc Brown aims to inspire our students by addressing various challenges and crises they may encounter in their lives.
The event was designed to encourage a growth mindset and empower our students to make positive choices, enhance their resilience, and develop crucial life skills that will contribute to their personal and academic growth.
Battle Lake School is embarking on a three-year implementation journey with the BARR (Building Assets, Reducing Risks) program. Funded by the Otter Tail Family Services Collaborative and a grant from the Minnesota Department of Education (MDE), BARR promises a holistic approach to education, nurturing students' academic, social, and emotional well-being. On Monday, November 4, Dr. Dan Ninham, Oneida tribal member, visited Battle Lake School and worked with all of the PhyEd classes. He has been traveling the country daily for the past four years presenting indigenous games in schools. He focuses on the Ojibwe language in his teachings with a variety of North American indigenous games. Take a look!
